What To Do before you Call Virgin Mobile Support!

Virgin Mobile's Most Popular Web Page

1 hour with Technical Support!

Gee thanks for wasting an hour of my time for nothing!  Couldn’t I of done this offline?  This isn’t like it is rocket science or is it?  When I started this trek to fixing my 3G signal, I never knew it was going to be such a big ordeal.  I mean, lets face it it isn’t like I don’t know what I am doing with my Android Phone.  I’ve been getting Error codes like 67, 3000, and 2048.   So i called them and they had me do a bunch of stupid stuff.   Here is what I suggest you do before you call Virgin Mobile.  That way you can at least be ahead of the game:

  • Turn off Cell Phone and if Possible take out battery for at least 15 seconds.
  • Try doing an Activation and Seeing if that resolves your problem!
  • Dial ##virgin# (##847446#) and view or edit your MSID (Mobile Station ID) and MDN (Mobile Number).   You’ll need to verify they are something other than 10 zeros!
  • Check for firmware updates.   On my Kyocera Rise, you can do that by going to System > System Updates.   This might help fix your problem before you even consider calling Virgin Mobile.   No bets though.
  • Last ditch resort!!  Do a hard reset on your Android Phone.   Not recommended but if you do this and you still have problems then it isn’t your phone.   You will need to reactivate the phone once it has been done and all photos, videos, and anything else on the phone is lost.   So it is a last resort.   Do this though, you will need to hold the down key and power button until you see the phone power up.  Using your volume keys select factory reset or something like that.

Although It seems Virgin Mobile is having some major 3g service issues.   I do hope they fix it.  I have tried everything other than just going back to Straight Talk.   This has been the lousiest experience in my life.   Has anyone else had this problem with your 3G service from Virgin Mobile Lately?

  1. Paul, I just bought a Kyocera Risa at Wal Mart and activated it last night. Although I'm not fond of Wal Mart, I did so because I could get an extended warranty for $7, one time, on the phone. I'm using very little in the way of talk time minutes and because I'm not semi retired, I'm at home 98% of the time where I have wi fi available. I spent about an hour on the phone with customer service in India or Pakistan today, and I could actually understand about 80% of what the CS rep was trying to communicate to me. I was hoping the phone would tether, but tried it last night and it didn't work with a USB cable. I'm going to try your first suggestion and see how it works. I did find out something that I wanted to verify today, though. I can use ONE $35 card which covers unlimited data , text and wi fi calling, and set up automatic debit for a $10 "top up card every month to maintain the service, which will also allow me to continue to use the data, text and phone as long as I'm using wi fi. Instead of 300 minutes per month off of the Sprint towers, I will only have 100 minutes, but I also have a T Mobile 4G hotspot which I can actvate whenever we are going to be out of town for any length of time. I've been paying Cox cable $180 per month for Internet, Cable TV and home phone (which is next to nothing because my wife is disabled and we have Life line phone service which is only about $10 per month with all the "extras.") I'm probably going to switch to Dish Network for TV service which will give us more channels, Blockbuster availability and save us about $80 per month on the Cable TV alone. If we can eliiminate the Cox Internet and use my Virgin phone for that, it will save us another $40 per month. I can keep the T mobile hotspot active with 3.5 G's for 60 days, it would take care of my need for phone service out of town. Do you think that the Sprint network will take care of my Internet service? Their map shows I have good data coverage at my house (we are 100 miles away from home right now) I'm almost tempted to keep the Cox Internet service, totally eliminate a TV provider and just watch what is available online and locally off antenna. We gave about 15 local broadcast stations and watch PBS a lot of the time. I bought a Vizeo wi fi 3D TV and a Samsung wi fi 3d BluRay a few months ago, so we have the option of subscribing to Netflix, Hulu, etc when we want to watch commercial free movies. Your thoughts? I'm JUST SICK TO DEATH OF THE CABLE MAFIA, after having my Internet cost double in the last 3 years, and cable TV increase about $50 to boot. What do you think about all this? Thanks for your great informative website. I'll favorite you!
